Pandora

Is everyone as addicted to Pandora as I am. How have I ever lived with out it?

I, of course, have to thank Chickie for being the person who originally introduced me.

I change stations with my mood and the best thing is, if there is a song I love, I can give it a thumbs up and it will be played more often.

And if there is a song I loathe, I can give it a thumbs down and I never have to hear it again. I know, I know, I am not supposed to start a sentance with and, well tough.

New Bread Machine

For my birthday a few weeks ago my terrifically, terrific in laws bought me the Breadman TR2700 Stainless-Steel Programmable Convection Bread Maker.

It makes THEE best bread.

Today, I made Whole Wheat Honey Bread and it is killer. I didn't have any dry milk so, I exchanged the 1/8 cup of water for milk and I used my favorite Smart Balance oil instead of shortening.

And to top off my wonderfully, warm slice of yummy goodness, I added a smear of my new found friend.

Ahhh. The smell of bread baking has to be one of the all time BEST smells.

Thanks Mom and Dad! Love ya!

New Job

I am so excited. Most of you know that I am a former Middle School Science teacher that decided to take a few years off, to be a stay at home mom. Well, things are sort of going to change. Just a little.

I was offered a position at Dream Nurse Travel as an assistant.

I will go back so, you can understand. I will try and keep this short but, I am a gabber so, just deal. Anyway, Kansas, the daughter of our builder, Phil, is a co-owner of the company Dream Nurse Travel. The company represents traveling nurses, placing them in positions of need.

Phil's other daughter, Sam, currently is working part time for the company. Awhile ago, there was talk about Sam and I splitting her job once she started her student teaching this fall. Sam checks the nurse's references and backgrounds.

Well, as it turns out, Kansas and her team decided that they need a whole other person. The company is growing fast! This person will assist Sam and Kansas. And, they hired me.

Besides helping Sam, I will assist Kansas in recruiting nurses and placing them into hospitals, clinics, etc, making a perfect fit.

At first, I will have office hours with Kansas at her home but, after I get the swing of things, I will be working from home.

I am so excited for this new adventure. I start this Friday.

Hey, if there are any nurses out there reading this, that are in the central NY area and you would be interested in traveling let me know.

Guess, I just started working.

Me

madigan avatar

One of my favorite blogs, Madigan Made tagged me with 8 questions. You need to check her out. Her positive outlook on life is truly
inspiring and of course her decor and tutorials are amazing.

1. If you could be a tool, either from the kitchen, craft room or toolbox, what would you be? I guess I would be a stapler. Keeping things organized and together in our home.

2. What's in your morning mug? weak coffee. I love coffee but, I am a total wimp with it.

3. If you could take a lesson to learn something new what would it be? The violin. I have always wanted lessons. Well, not always, when I was like 11 my Grandmother took me to a school where I could get lessons and offered to pay for them but, I wouldn't do it b/c it was too nerdy. I am SO kicking myself now!

4. What is your favorite season? Fall, Fall, Fall!

5. If you could vacation anywhere for a week, where would you go? Italy. I have relatives over there somewhere.

6. What room in your house do you most enjoy to spend time? Well, I spend most of my time in the kitchen, but I would much rather be spending it in my bedroom, snuggling with a book, or the kids or the hubby.

7. What makes you smile? Of course I need to say my family, friends, nature, chocolate but besides that I love the thrill of the thrift hunt. I love finding that perfect item, CHEAP. Smile!

8. Free question. Tell us something random about yourself. I love to organize things. But, I can be bad at keeping them organized. That is my new goal in this new house.

Did You Know

A few years ago, I learned something interesting about aluminum foil. Did you know that there are tabs on the ends of the box that hold the foil in place? Many cling wraps have them too. So, there is no more pulling the entire roll out of the box. Generic brands have it too. Hope I made someones life easier today!

One Large Gas Bill-The Final Chapter-I Promise!

The Flatulence Finale or is it The Apprehended Appendix?

The wheels on the ambulance go 'round and 'round.

I arrive at the ER somewhere between 3:45 and 4:00pm. They check me in. I get another IV port. Yay, I am so happy. The nurse said that the one that I have is too small for surgery but, she leaves it in just in case. Blood is drawn. The ER doc comes in and chats with me after a few minutes. He says that he looked at my CT scans and that my appendix isn't the biggest he's seen but, swollen is swollen.

I am bugged by a few more people and then moved to a different ER room because they need mine for an attempted suicide patient. Poor girl. She got the charcoal and everything. She had a guard sitting outside her door and escorting her to the bathroom. Poor baby she looked about 16. I hope she gets better.

Anyway, I am told that they are waiting for a surgeon to get out of surgery so, he can look at my scans. And since I seem to be in no pain I guess there is no ASAP appendix removal for me.
So, my boys come in around 7:30pm to visit. Now remember, it is Johnsie's birthday. I feel so horrible. I literally saw him for like an hour this morning. Ryan brought his gifts into the ER so I could at least see him open his gifts. He is such a carefree boy, he could really care less where he was opening his gifts. Luckily, we went bowling the day before and had a cake for him.

Around 8:00pm the surgeon shows up and my boys make a quiet exit. He explains to me that he saw the CT scan and isn't convinced it is my appendix. The scan said my appendix was 1.2 cm and normally it is about 1 cm. And since I am showing no other symptoms, besides being tender to the touch, he wants to keep me for observation and he will see me in the morning. So, finally around 11:00 I am moved upstairs to a room. Again, this whole day I have really felt ok.

Morning comes still feeling good, just sore when I get up, and I guess the doc wants me to have an ultrasound. No biggie but, I find out when I get down there not only am I having an ultrasound but, I am getting an internal one too. Oh joy! Great times!

I get wheeled back upstairs and I wait and wait and wait for the doc to come see me. Ryan and Johnsie show up around 1:00pm with flowers. Aww sweet. And finally around 3:30 the dude shows up. Some, see ya in the morning. He tells me he looked at my ultrasound and that they again show a slightly swollen appendix but, since I have no other symptoms he is perplexed. He said he could take it out if I wanted him to but, he feels I should just go home and wait and see. If I run a fever or start getting sick I should high tail it to the ER.

So, he discharges me and off I go. Appendix still intact. Just really hungry since the last I ate was Sunday evening and now it was Tuesday afternoon.

Today, I felt great. I didn't exert myself because I just wasn't sure and if I push on my side I can still feel the tenderness but, otherwise, I am normal.

Honestly, I still think it was just a really, really bad case of gas that just wore my guts out. I never did really let one go though. Just your normal putt putt here and there. I guess time will tell. I will say that I am not looking forward to that GAS bill though. Cough, cough, wheeze.

Seriously, Do I look like someone having an appendicitis attack. I think not.

Johnsie bored in the ER. What a great way to spend your birthday.

Sorry that was so long. Oh well, you were bored anyway, right?

One Large Gas Bill-Part 2

The GAS saga continues.....

So, I sit for around 45 minutes waiting to see the doctor. When I finally do, I sheepishly explain to him that I have been having gas pains since Friday. And even though I am feeling much better now and my stomach is only slightly sore, there is no way I want those pains back. So, please give me some killer flatulence blockers. I have to tell you here that, even though I was feeling WAY better now, the night before I was having visions of my small intestine all twisted up and a big ol' ball of gas was trapped and ready to burst. I was making myself get a tad nervous.

When the doc had me lay down, so he could poke and prod, I seemed to be most tender about where ones appendix resides. Hmmm. Now in Ryan's defense, I will say that he asked me repeatedly if I thought it was my appendix. And, in my defense, when the cramps were at their worst, my pain seemed to be located just below my belly button.

The doc decides he would like to do a little test called a CT scan. Wonderful. Our bank account is already coughing on dust because of this thing called a HOUSE we are building. So, I am given 2 glasses of this "tasty" lemonade junk to drink and it needs to sit in my guts for 2 hours before they can do the test and NO I am not allowed to go home. Should I tell you now that it is my son's 4TH BIRTHDAY! And here I sit alone drinking "lemonade."

2 hrs pass. I get an IV so they can pump some "Contrast" into me. Dang that IV hurt too. My veins keep getting smaller so, I am a tough poke. Now this contrast stuff is pumped through me and I was told before hand that it makes you feel flushed. I didn't feel the heat in my face. I felt it in my butt. How weird is that?

Back I go to my little room to await the results. Yep, my appendix is swollen. And not only do I have to go and get it removed ASAP but, I have to go by ambulance because I have an IV port. Now, remember when I said that when I woke up I was felling much better. Well, by this time I am feeling just as good. No fever. No vomiting. So, I was not thrilled about the idea of a trip in an ambulance. Again my poor bank account, cough, cough, wheeze. But, I am sternly told I can not drive myself and Ryan also is not allowed to take me.

So around 3:45 my chariot arrives. My boys arrived at the doctor's office moments before I was swept away.
I had my camera on me and I wish I would have taken a picture but, this one I stole from the ambulance's website will have to do.

Oh, my gosh this is a long story! And I am not done.

One Large Gas Bill-Part 1

Ok, So, last Friday night I was in MAJOR pain. Bad, bad, bad stomach cramps. So bad that I had Ryan run and get me some GasX from Rite Aid around 8:30pm. I had never had pain like this. Ok, well maybe labor pain but, that led to a cute bundle of joy and not just a stinky room.

Anyway, after I took the pill nothing changed. I actually had tears in my eyes it was so bad. I ended up "sleeping" on the couch, tossing and turning all night. I did catch up on some of my recorded shows. Always looking for the positive! When I got up on Saturday I felt better but, my gut still hurt. So, I took it easy most of the day.

Sunday we had big plans to go bowling with friends for Johnsie's birthday. I still was crampy so, I didn't bowl but, I did move around quite a bit helping Johnsie and whatever. After we got home I swear all hell broke loose in my gut. I was doubled over and seeing stars. Ryan kept telling me, No Way is this just gas. Let me tell you right here that, since Friday no more gas then usual has passed out of me. Aren't you all SO happy I am talking about MY FARTS.

Back to the story. So Ryan has to leave for work around 5pm and I am all like, "yeah, go, I'm fine." I didn't want my gas getting up in his face. Sorry, just had to write that b/c I thought it was funny. Anyway, I didn't want him to miss work even though he assured me it was no problem for him to stay home. So, off he goes and around 6:20 Manny sneaks and calls him because I am scaring him with my howling and bawling. Ryan is back home by 7ish. He gives me some ibuprofen and I snuggle up with my heating pad and fall asleep.

When I wake up on Monday I am actually feeling better. Guts are still sore but I can move around. Ok, so Ryan has been telling me to go to the dr because this can't just be gas. I am thinking to myself, as humbling as it will be to go into the dr for GAS, I for sure the heck will not go through another night like last night.

So around 10am I head off to the doctor. Aren't you all so happy you started reading this post. :)

Oh Mamma the Surprise

Last week while I was visiting Chickie and fam for my birthday, I was treated to an amazing birthday supper. Chickie and Gram got reservations at a restaurant in downtown Minneapolis called Zelo's. The food was awesome.

First, we had an appetizer of sauteed portobellos and peppers. Oh so good. After that I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana, Gram ordered the Tortiglioni Rossa and Chickie ordered the Fussili Lunghi. Am I right about that ladies? Because to be honest, I was so busy stuffing my face, I truly can't remember. Everything was so good. We each split our plates three ways so, we all could try each others. I do have to say that mine was the best by far. Sorry ladies.

The whole surprise, I mean everything, was Chickie's idea. She planned when I was flying out and what we were going to do each day.

My BEAUTIFUL Mother-in-Law, my FAVORITE girl, and me.

Being chocoholics, the Budino (Molten chocolate cake with Vanilla gelato and Fudge sauce) was our preferred choice for dessert. It was amazing. We also ordered a Tiramisu to share but, it didn't even compare.

So, afterwards we leave and head towards the parking garage. Well at least that's what I thought. When we were supposed to cross the street the girls grabbed me and said we weren't leaving just yet. Hmmm. I was confused and a little concerned. I said, "I'm not going to have to get up and dance or something?" They just smiled.

Ok, sorry Chickie, but I have to tell this part. It is just too funny. The night before my birthday Chickie said we should get pedicures on my birthday because her feet were so sore from shopping all day. Well, it just so happens that I was wore Chickie's high heels out to the restaurant. Which anyone who knows her well, knows she has some pretty stinky shoes. I mean STINKY. It was not my idea to wear them, but Chickie insisted I couldn't wear my clunky shoes. Anyway, both ladies happen to stop in front of a nail salon and this scared me. There was no way I was going to let someone touch my feet when I was wearing stinky shoes. They assured me wasn't where we were going. Whew.

As we walked on my mother-in-law tried to get us to cross the street but, she was too late because seconds later I noticed peeking out from behind a building the word MIA on the marquee. Seriously! We are going to see Mamma Mia? I LOVE the movie and the music. Chickie can attest to this. And it was opening night!

Yep, they totally surprised me. I had totally forgotten that weeks earlier I had asked Chickie if her and Gram were going to see a show while they were in the cities dress shopping. She told me Mamma Mia was going to be in town and I told her NO WAY are you going to see it without me.

Well, of course my girl remembered this and like I said she organized the whole thing. Good thing she has some good backers, because Ryan bought the plane tickets and my wonderful in-laws bought the show tickets.

This really was the best birthday I have ever had. Chickie, YOU ARE THE BEST. I love you so much and I am so proud of you. You aren't only my daughter anymore, you are turning into my best friend too! Love ya and thanks again Chickie, Ryan, Mom and Dad for an unforgettable birthday. And I did get up and dance!

On the OTHER side

So, today is my birthday. I am officially on the other side. The big 36. Granted in my head I feel no older than say 26-27 but, the crow's feet around my eyes definitely tell the truth. I am sort of mushy about this one. I know everyone says I am still young. I know. I'm not saying I'm elderly. Just On The Other Side.

Lucky for me I don't have time to dwell on my age. I am hanging out with my best girl. And tonight she and my wonderful in-laws are taking me out for a wonderful birthday supper. Too bad my boys aren't here with me too. I miss them.

On Sunday, Mom made me my all time FAVORITE meal. Corned beef and cabbage. YUM. And I am not even Irish. Odd favorite for an Italian/German girl.

Yesterday, we did a ton of shopping at the Mall of America. We are ready for Prom.

Pictures coming.

Happy Birthday To Me. (even if I am OLD)

I'm Off

I am off to Minnesota. I can't wait to see my Chickie. Mom and Dad too. And I really hope to see all of our other family members who live by the cities. I have missed everyone so much.

We are staying with Ryan's Grandfather. He is so wonderful. I can't wait to see him too.

Thanks again, Ry. You always know how to make me happy. I Love You So Much. This birthday gift is the BEST gift I have ever received. Hugs and Kisses.

Home from Haiti

I am so happy for Sarah. Finally, was able to bring Reese home to MN. There were so many obstacles they had to overcome but, now they are home.

Sarah and her husband have adopted Reese from Haiti. When they were at the airport ready to leave they were mobbed by people who were calling them missionaries and saying that they can't take their children. Sarah and 2 other women were taken into police custody and questioned. Finally, after days of craziness the Haitian authority proclaimed that Sarah's adoption of Reese was legitimate and they were allowed to leave the country. They are finally back in MN.

Sarah was Johnie's ECFE (early preschool for MN kiddos) teacher. She was so wonderful. He loved her and so did I. Her oldest son also played hockey and sometimes Manny's team would play against their team. She has been keeping us all abreast on facebook and she recently started a blog The Thacker Pack.

You can see some of her story on CNN. They were recently on Anderson Cooper.

Ho Hum

I don't know if I am the only one this happens to but, I go in computer addiction swings. Some days I am on it for a couple hours a day and other days I just check my email real quick and hop off. That is what I am doing right now. I have no umpf these days to post or really just do anything. I am totally lacking motivation.

You would think I would be so excited about building this house and don't get me wrong I am but, right now I am just ugg. I feel I have looked at so many samples I can't even tell what looks nice anymore. Plus, we keep being told we will dig next week. Well, we were first told that about 3 weeks ago. Now, they are saying hopefully Monday or Tuesday. We shall see. I am hopping my energy is renewed once things start moving.

I feel so bad for Johnsie these days because I am unmotivated to work with him too. Granted Mondays and Wednesdays we go to preschool open gym for 1 1/2 hrs. and Tuesdays we go to a pseudo preschool for an hr and Fridays we are still going to preschool story time for an hour, but here at home we haven't done much. My poor guy.

I am just so tired and there is NO reason for it. I take my vitamins, drink a cup or 2 of coffee and on average, sleep 8 1/2 hrs each night and sometimes even more. What's the deal? And it isn't my thyroid because that was just checked. It is just unmotivated me. Blah, tired, lacking fire, slothful, humdrum, uninspired, ho hum me. Maybe it's the winter blahs.

Sorry for the negative post. The next one will be much more happy, I promise.

Last Post on Old Blog

Ok, so, I have wanted to do this forever. All I did was change the name. Everything is the same. This whole blog is copied and pasted into the new blog.

When I first created my blog I didn't know anything and didn't realize I would have to name my blog right away. I am the type of person who writes first and then comes up with a title. Yes, there are 5 of us. And yes, we can be silly. And yes Mom, I still love frogs. But, the name just didn't work for me.

Naming a blog is hard. I really wanted the name to encompass our family life. I came up with a lot of fun names but, not many suited us like, Cultivating Chaos. Love the name, but we aren't very chaotic. We are more of a laid back, easy going family.

So, I came up with Little Did I Know.

Little did I know that my life would be so blessed.

Little did I know that I would be pregnant at 17.

Little did I know that I would graduate high school, have a baby and get married at 18.

Little did I know that even though that all happened Ryan and I would still finish college.

Little did I know that at 23 we would have a 2nd child.

Little did I know that I would be hired for a teaching position after only 1 interview.

Little did I know that 3 years later I would be laid off from that dream job.

Little did I know that after going back to school for elementary ed I would get another job using my first teaching degree.

Little did I know that at 32 Ryan and I would have our 3rd child.

Little did I know that after teaching for another 4 years I would quit my job to be a stay at home mom.

Little did I know that Ryan's job would take us from or home in MN to NY.

Little did I know that after all that, Ryan, would still be my best friend.

Little did I know that we would make it and still be in love.

Little did I know that my life would be so blessed.

I am still working on it so, there will be some changes. I won't post here any more so, make sure to add the new address to your reader/bookmarks/etc.

Name Changes: Ok, So when I first started this blog I used the kids' first initial of their names. Then, I switched to using their actual names because using their first initial really bugged me. Then, I went back to using their initial for safety issues. NOW, I am going to change it and use their nicknames. Using their initial drives me NUTS. So, now I have to ask myself which nickname do I use. They each have so many.

This one I typically call Chickie.

Most of this guys nicknames are really similar to his name so, we will have to go with Manny. This comes from Manny Fernandez, the goalie, who used to play for the MN Wild. But he also goes but Johns. Not like John's but Johnson dropping the --on. Johns. Got it?

This guy has so many nicknames it is hard to choose. He can be Boo, Bubba, Johnsie, even Johnsie Johnserson and a bunch more that are also similar to his actual name. I will probably either refer to him as Johnsie or Bubba since they are the 2 used most often.

My poor kiddos. Their Mom is such an oddball. But, I did notice that as they get older they have fewer nicknames. Notice A only has 1. N has 2ish and poor
D has a ton.

Purging- My brain that is.

Ok, I thought I would just empty my brain here. Life has been so crazy and so many times I find myself awake in the middle of the night just thinking. My wonderful mother-in-law told me to make lists of the things I need to do so, I won't be so stressed about forgetting what I need to do. Right Mom? So here I go. This is all so random.

1. Find a preschool for D for next yr. I still plan on supplementing here at home.

2. Find someplace for D and I to go through the day. We checked the Y and it is pretty spendy. My guy, so needs to run around.

3. Find the boys new dressers and desks. New is debatable. I really plan on hitting garage sales this spring to find these.

4. Wash clothes. By hand that is, in my sink. We aren't going to get a washer and dryer until after the 22nd of Jan. Ryan's boss will be here before then and Ryan needs to have an office set up. Yep, you guessed it. It is going to be in our bathroom/laundry room. After that, he will move up to our bedroom where he will have way more room and I can get a washer and dryer. Seriously, the other night I was up to my elbows in boys dirty underwear. How many of you have hand washed your hubbys undies? Huh? And laundry mats scare me. ISH! I, however, seem to have enough undies to last 3 months.

5. Find friends. How sad is that? The other day, D and I went to preschool library time and there was one lady there who seemed decent and I so had the urge to mall her and beg her to be my friend. Maybe next week.

6. Finish changing our address on things. I keep getting more things in the mail with our forwarding sticker on it, that I forgot about and still need to change.

7. Close our savings and checking back in MN. Because right now we have 2 of each.

8. Clean out the car and get it washed. You would not believe the amount of salt NY puts down. And it doesn't help that every day since we arrived on Dec. 29th it has snowed. That is, except yesterday, when we had freezing rain and I had to take a chisel to my car windows.

9. Organize my kitchen better. Seriously in this little house I have 2, yes, I said 2, kitchen drawers and they measure 6 1/2 inches wide, 6 1/2, 2. What? Who makes a kitchen like that? Go take our your tape measure and see just how big that is. I did.

10. Get motivated. Right now 2 cups of coffee in the morning isn't cutting it. I have almost 800 blog posts in my reader. I never am in the mood to even get on here and type on my own blog. D and I haven't really done any projects in weeks. I am actually happy that we don't have cable hooked up yet. It is forcing us to play. Otherwise, I am scared I would just plop us in front of cartoons all day. We are getting cable on Tues. so I hope a fire is lit under my butt soon. Dt. Mt. Dew does help a little.

OK, OK so that is enough for now. I just needed to get some of those things down on "paper." I could so easily add 1,000 more things since we just closed on our land today and now the building process starts and I am SO stressed about that. I am SO scared we are going to run out of $$$$. Talk about keeping me up at night.

OK, OK I am done.

My Other Award

Ok, so, I have no idea why I couldn't access Courtney's blog earlier but, now it's all good.

Courtney, I am honored to be given this "Honest Scrap" award from you. A BIG Thanks.

Along with this award I need to list 10 Honest Facts about myself and then pass this award on to 10 other bloggers.

Here we go:

1. I am such a wanna be crafter. I see so many cool things out there and then when I try to replicate them, let's just say I could post a lot on the Craft Fail blog.

2. I am a paper hoarder. I buy cute paper for scrapbooking and never use it because it's too cute.

3. I LOVE to sleep. If I could take a nap everyday I would. And when I get to, I sleep for 2 hours at least.

4. I am really good at starting projects, but not always so good at finishing them.

5. I sleep better when my 3 year old sleeps with me.

6. I love to watch Mamma Mia. I could literally watch it a few times a day if I could. The music is so awesome.

7. I check out at least 1 thrift store a week. Ya just never know what you are going to find.

8. My favorite color is pink. It makes me feel girly.

9. I truly despise folding socks. UGH!

10. Last, but not least, my husband still takes my breath away after 17 years of marriage. I Love Him So.

And 10 bloggers, who I love to read and inspire me, besides Courtney are:

1. Angie over at Just Shy of a Y

2. Diana over at Arts and Crofts

3. Denise over at Explorations

4. Jennifer over at My Two Happy Homeschoolers

6. The ladies over at Living the Frugal Life

7. Melissa over at My 2 Blessings

8. Keri over at The Home Teacher

9. Gabby over at The Work Of Childhood

10. Chris over at Just a Girl
