What We're Reading

This was a really cute book about these 4 silly chickens that keep trying to get to from their coop to the farm house.

We are seeing caterpillars everywhere here these days. To be honest, it is kind of nasty. They are hanging from trees all over the place. I am assuming they are Gypsy moths. Ish!

Anyway, this book was super sweet. Clara, a cabbage butterfly, teaches the other butterflies that it is wonderful to be common and plain. This book has a ton of great C words- captivating, capered, carefree, colossal, clambered, curious, cautious, courageous and a ton more. We had a great vocab lesson reading this.

Cute book by John Lithgow, he was so great in Footloose. Sorry, anywho, Sue doesn't like being a kangaroo so, she pretends to be other marsupials. In the end, she decides that being a kangaroo is perfect.

A family of mice never can decide what to watch on TV. There aren't a ton of words in this book. But, we had fun going through the pictures of the television frames and interpreting what was happening during each show.

Happy Reading.

Typically dogs chase the mailman but, in this book it's Millie the cow. Johnsie loved this book. He thought it was so funny.
This book was also a huge hit. There isn't a better combination for this house. Dinos and hockey are always a hit.

Johnsie loved a book that we had around Christmas called the 12 days of Christmas Dogs. So, I knew he would enjoy this one too. Some of the kids in this book are a little odd looking and then I read the bio of the illustrator and she explained how she is inspired by old monster movies. Ah, now I get it.

David Shannon, need I say more.

I think this book will be a big hit in a few years. Right now, Johnsie has no idea what vowels and consonants are. It was a little long too. I liked the idea though.

This was one of our favs this week. I love Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli and this book is by his wife Eileen so I was hoping we would like it. In this story Tilly is a silly goose that the other farm animals are annoyed with. They want him to stop being silly. But then they realize how much they miss the old Tilly.

Chester the cat and Buddy the dog always fight, so Chester decides to leave. Buddy realizes how much he misses Chester and goes out in search of him. I likes the illustrations in this one!
Little Oink doesn't like being messy but his parents make him be piggy. He loves to spend time in his playhouse that he keeps just so.

Pinch the pack rat learns that a clean, neat house feels great.

What kind of sounds do Dinos make while they are sleeping?

This was by far my favorite book this week. Little Miss Muffet doesn't like her nursery rhyme anymore and she is off to search for a new one. It is such a cute book and I love the illustrations. It did make me realize though how few nursery rhymes Johnsie knows. Something to work on I guess.

This was Johnsie's favorite book. I guessed that before he even saw it. He loves Superheros.

Pigs, pigs everywhere. Pigs from England. Pigs from France. Pigs in just their underpants.

Don't. I repeat, DON'T let the Pigeon drive the bus!

I remember reading this book to Chickie and Manny when they were little. I knew it was going to be scary since the fox wants to eat the De Soto's but I knew Johnsie could handle it. Just make sure your kiddo is ready for this and when Dr. DeSoto extracts the foxes tooth there is some dripping blood. So, again make sure your kiddo can handle it.

We just had to read some Dr. Seuss this week. Happy Birthday Big Guy!

Left foot. Right foot. Feet. Feet. Feet.
Oh, how many feet you meet!

We love Randy Cecil in this house. Poor Duck can't fly because she is made of wood, but in the end Duckling, who she took care of, comes and gives her a ride.

This was Chickie's book when she was little. In it, Big Bird learns the importance of sharing.

Ok, So I was rushing while checking out books yesterday at the library and I really didn't look at this book closely. I just figured Chicken Pox. Nope. It's about Lice. Gross, Lice.

Seriously, you mean to tell me I just checked out a book about head lice. Needless to say, we only read this book once. I was so grossed out during the entire thing. And itchy too. It was written well and the pictures were good. But, definitely not a book I want to read at snuggle time.

Duck Soup was our favorite book this week. Duck is trying to make a wonderful soup and he goes out to the garden to get some extra ingredients when his buddies come in and think he has fallen into the soup. It was really cute.

Chickie got Robot Zot for Johnsie for Christmas. He is really into ro
bots right now. And Jon Scieszka and David Shannon are always AWESOME!

We prefer the elephant books of Mo Willems but this one was cute too. We checked out the pigeon website Pigeon Presents and it had some fun things for Johnsie to do.

Poor Suzy Sue has something very important to do but, the farm
animals stole her potty so, they can use it. They want a clean farm. Finally Suzy gets her potty just in time.

Johnsie loves Max and Ruby. And this book was just right for Johnsie because Max makes a mess.

Mirror Mirror

Thrifting again. Oh No.

I actually saw this mirror the day before and passed on it. The next day I just had to go and get it. It is made really well and fairly big. I plan on painting the frame black. When it is finally hanging in our new house I will do before and after pics. It was $5.99. On the 27th the thrift store is having a 50% off everything sale. I was just too scared it wouldn't still be there.

I picked this hand and foot puzzle too.

Ok, so when I first started college this book was required for my Psych 101 class. I fell in love with it. I still have my copy somewhere. Quote---"Play fair. Don't hit people. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody. "

Anyway, this last summer I found this book, of course, at a thrift store and loved it too. Fulghum is so easy to read. His books are made up of short stories and ideas. Quote--- "Above all, if what you've done is stupid, but it works, it ain't stupid."

So, the other day I found this book.

And this book. I am so excited to read them. Each chapter in Fulghum's books are usually independent so they are great to keep somewhere where you can just pick it up and read it for a few minutes.

I have heard this is a great book but, I have never read it. I saw the movie yrs ago. I can't resist a good book for $1.00.

Johnsie loved this book. All the dogs are made from fruits and veggies.

Great book for pre-reading skills.

Next week, at story time, the theme is going to be trains, so we thought we would get a jump start. It doesn't hurt that Johnsie loves trains.
More trains.

Cute book. Lots of rhyming.
